Craftstone® is a highly durable solid surface material that will retain its beauty and elegance for years with the proper care and maintenance.
Cleaning & Care No special cleaning products are needed to keep Craftstone® Solid Surface looking beautiful day in and day out. While Craftstone® solid surface is extremely tough and durable, like any fine material it can be damaged if abused or mistreated. Normal CleaningCraftstone® solid surfaces are non-porous so they can be easily wiped clean with a damp cloth or sponge and mild detergents or general purpose cleaners. If you have a factory matte finish, mild abrasive cleaners may also be used. Periodically, it may also be helpful to go over the entire surface with a mild abrasive cleaner (such as Bon Ami® or a wet Scotch Brite® pad (if matte finish) to maintain a uniform appearance. DO NOT use cleaners that have a citrus base. Spills & Stains While most everyday spills can be removed with the cleaning techniques listed above, some troublesome spills and stains such as food dye, tea, coffee and fruit drinks may require more aggressive cleaning. These items can be removed with full strength bleach for two to five minutes, followed by a general cleaner and flush with water. On factory matte finish, if you prefer, you can scrub with an abrasive cleaner. On the NPR series, liquid spills, such as, alcohol, medications, and high acid content liquids, should be cleaned up promptly. Popular products that should be promptly cleaned are: shaving cream, toothpaste, perfume, cologne, nail polish remover, hair coloring or perm products, shampoo, drain opener and toilet bowl cleaner. Cigarettes Craftstone® solid surface will not burn, should a lighted cigarette accidentally come is contact with the surface, however, it could leave a nicotine tar stain or a scorch mark. Either of these can be removed with an abrasive cleanser or buffing with a Scotch Brite® pad. Some Simple PrecautionsDO NOT place hot pans directly from the burner or the oven on the Craftstone® solid surface. Even though Craftstone® solid surface can withstand sustained temperatures up to 225 F., prolonged or extreme heat could cause yellowing. A trivet should always be used under heated appliances, such as crock pots, electric fry pans, George Forman Grills®, etc; Doing so may prevent you from discovering an open seam in your counter-top. Major changes in temperature, such as, cold winter temperatures in a home without a heater then turning on a ready heater for quick heat, may also cause the seam to break.DO NOT use your counter-top as a cutting board. Although minor cuts and scratches can be repaired, deep cuts will require the services of a professional. Strong acids such as those found in drain cleaners, toilet bowl and oven cleaners should be used cautiously. If these items are accidentally spilled wipe them up at once and rinse well with water. Oven cleaner will ruin your counter tops. Place protective pads on the bottoms of any heavy objects, such as pottery, appliances, canisters, and any other ceramic product. DO NOT stand on your tops to fix overhead lights or other items Due to the procedures for decorative (top) inlays, they may limit the performance benefits of Craftstone®. Because Craftstone's® pattern runs completely through, from surface to back, Craftstone® is completely restorable.Scratches Scractches and Cuts Remove scratches and cuts by sanding the damaged areas with fine (180-220) sandpaper. Then apply an abrasive cleanser and rub a green Scotch-Brite™ pad until the surface completely is complelely restored. Stains Difficult stains can also be removed with the Scotch-Brite™ pad. Use a diluted solution of water and an ammonia-based cleanser for removing most stains or dirt. Dry with a cloth towel. |
